Congratulations to Justin Karczag for being admitted to the Nevada State Bar.

October 21, 2011

Announcement. Today, FBBC Partner Justin Karczag was sworn in to, and officially becomes a member of, the Nevada State Bar. At the swearing in ceremony in Las Vegas Nevada, the Nevada Supreme Court held a special session to welcome and admit this summer's successful Bar Exam takers. Chief Justice Nancy M. Saitta presided over the session and the ceremonies. Several hundred admittees and their families were in attendance, as well as a host of other Judges, Judicial Officers, and government and Bar representatives.

A bit about the Nevada Bar. Nevada has the honor of being the state with the second most difficult bar exam in the country, after California (in 3 of the past five years for which data is available, 2007, 2009 and 2010). It consists of two grueling days of essay exams plus a full day MBE multiple-choice exam. Nevada does not offer any reciprocity programs, and it requires all applicants, including already-practicing attorneys from different states, to sit for the full exam.

Multiple jurisdictions. Having become a member of the California State Bar in 2002, Justin Karczag joins Partner Peter J. Bezek, who is also licensed in Washington State, as being able to practice in multiple jurisdictions. Admission to practice in Nevada on a full time basis provides an exciting opportunity for the Firm to establish a permanent presence in Nevada. Past cases in which FBBC has shared primary responsibility for litigating in Nevada include:

  1. In re Southwest Exchange, Inc., IRS Section 1031 Tax Deferred Exchange Litigation, USDC Nevada Case No. 2:07-cv-1394 (a national class action involving a Ponzi scheme which resulted in settlements in excess of $98 Million paid by, inter alia, Union Bank of Switzerland and Smith Barney & Company);

  2. Blinkinsop, et al. v. Vegas Grand, USDC Nevada Case No. 05-0714) (a national class action involving multiple failed condominium developments, resulting in a multi-million dollar settlement to purchasers);

  3. Scott, et al. v. Vegas Icon, USDC Nevada Case No. 2:06-00082 (a class action involving a failed condominium development, resulting in thousands of dollars going to each class member, and an overall payment by the Defendant in excess of a million dollars).
