Denison et al. v. Salvation Army

This page was created as a source of information to consumers who are inquiring about a class action lawsuit filed against The Salvation Army that alleges that certain of its practices violate California’s employment laws.

Class Action Complaint Against The Salvation Army
Plaintiffs Dana Denison, Nicholas Willows and Rebecca Taft filed a lawsuit on their own behalf and as a class action against The Salvation Army for violation of California’s wage and hour laws.  As set forth in the Complaint, Plaintiffs allege that The Salvation Army failed to record and pay for hourly-paid employees’ off-the-clock work and overtime, altered hourly-paid employee time records, and failed to pay for missed meal and rest period breaks as required under California law. Plaintiffs allege that this conduct violates common law and statutory wage and hour laws.  A complete copy of the complaint that was filed in court can be accessed by clicking on the link on the left-hand sidebar entitled "View Complaint". The contents of the complaint are only allegations until such time as those allegations are proven in court.

The Proposed Class
The proposed class consists of all current and former hourly-paid employees of The Salvation Army (including all Adult Rehabilitation Centers and thrift stores) in the State of California from February 2003 to the present, excluding (1) all employees who hold or held salaried positions, and (2) unpaid beneficiaries who performed work as members of the ARC program.
